I have so often felt that way. There are days where I would go through someone's FaceBook profile just to see how they were doing. They had either gotten the man, the degree, the job, the car or annoyingly- the whole package. I also know of many women who have felt this way, women who refused to celebrate with another, women who chose bitterness over everything and women who chose to live in the shadows of the one who "got it all". If you have been or are still this woman then let me assure you that there is a GOD who is genuinely interested in YOU (the whole package you).
I think that women are often very hard on themselves. They are quick to be strength and support system to family and friends and fail not only to be that to themselves but to also allow people to be there for them. Women are their truly their worst critics, sadly, they are also the worst critics of other women. In a world where women are now CEO's and directors, it almost seems like a weakness when one asks "how do I do it all". We have been fed with expectation of having it all- the great career, the great marriage, the great kids, the wonderful house, flawless floors and forever ironed laundry. On top of that, women now even feel guilty for "aging", so much so that companies are thriving on products to make women look younger.
I believe that GOD created women with an extra ability to do things so while I do believe that a woman can have it all, I am certainly not judgemental of those who are finding their way around. Women are often the first to point out the dirty socks under the coach instead of picking them for a sister. They are the first to point out all the mistakes after leaving someone's house instead of correcting and helping with love. How the world would be if women encouraged and uplifted each other instead of tearing each other down.
Well, one of the reasons women hate on each other instead of empowering one another is the fact that they see each other as competitors. "We raise girls to see each other as competitors not for jobs or accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men."- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I think women should see each other as sisters- period.
It is this kind of competition that makes women not appreciate themselves and constantly compare themselves with others. Each woman needs to remember that GOD made them especially special, not with a single mistake. They need to remember that everything about them was specially designed and created with love. The insecurities that stems from comparing ourselves need be turned into self love and appreciation. We grow up looking up to certain people, sometimes to own disadvantage. As young girls we look up certain women and forget to look at what we have, what makes us special and unique. We forget to embrace our differences and accept us for who we are.
Thinking that a person is living your dream shows that you have not come to terms with who you are. If you know yourself and believe in yourself and trust the LORD that made you then you will know and be secure in the fact that no-one can steal your portion away from you. Looking into another's life with envy indicates that you don't know who you are and what you are capable of. Often it our failures and mistakes that makes us feel like other people have it all, and if this is the case with you, then you need to remember that mistakes and failures are made in order to learn from them. If you have made some bad life choices, stop looking at your neighbours greener grass and start watering your own. Develop your own dreams, get to know you, be comfortable and embrace you. Thank GOD even for the little things (I thank GOD for my good hairline). Remember that you are you for a reason and let your dreams be your dreams, based on your hopes and personality, not what society or family dictates. There can only ever be one you- don't rob the world and yourself of that gift.
