Follow your heart?

It is capable of so many things from love to hate and everything else in between. Jealousy, pride, spite and bitterness are things most know too well. The phrase "follow your heart" often guides people's behavior and "next move".The heart here refers to your emotions and whatever part is involved in falling (in love) for someone. I think that all too often we have trusted the heart too much, forgetting that it too can be fooled and easily manipulated. The heart sometimes falls for what is not good for it. How many times have we heard topics and conversations of why good girls fall in love with bad boys. As a "good girl" who once fell deeply for a "bad boy" I can testify that the heart always knows when something is not good for it but it loves anyway. It has the ability to overpower any logic and once it has fallen, it is so difficult to convince it otherwise. The heart loves to love!

Guarding your heart is imperative if you are to avoid heartache and not be "the broken hearted girl". Now we all know that no-one's heart wants to be guarded, it just wants to love and love whoever and whatever it wants and that's why we find the most awkward couples out there (lol). You are the master of your emotions and that means that how you FEEL can be quite irrelevant to what you are actually supposed to do. Feelings are feeble and cannot be trusted. There has to be more in life that we base our decisions and behavior on than feelings. We have people who have made detrimental and life costing mistakes because "it felt right". Just because something feels right doesn't mean that it is right! By the same principle just because you feel like you are in love doesn't mean that you actually are. Surely love is more than a feeling or feelings?!. So if your answer to how "you know you love your partner" is "I can feel it" then maybe its time to re-evaluate.

We should learn to master our emotions and behavior. I'm always inspired by Japanese and Chinese people and how they constantly train themselves to discipline their bodies and actions. The truth is the heart can be guarded, it is YOUR heart  it is YOUR responsibility to protect it. Everything starts somewhere so that means that we don't fall in love out of the blue- it is a process that takes time. A process that took a thought of being in love with the person and entertaining that thought so much that it started and ultimately made sense. So simply, you guard you heart by guarding your thoughts. I refuse to trust something as easily manipulated like the heart to determine my "next move". Tell yourself that regardless of how I feel, I choose to do better. When the heart falls for the right things, it is such a beautiful thing and you get to appreciate its purpose. So let us ask GOD to help us guard these hearts of ours and trust Him to lead us to those things we should be falling for.

"Above all else guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it"
